Virginia Tech recognized with Transact Distinction Award

Virginia Tech was recognized with the 2024 Transact Distinction Award for Student Experience for the university’s recent launch of a new student billing and payments system.

The Transact Distinction Award celebrates institutions that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to enhancing the campus experience through innovative technology. Virginia Tech’s award was presented at the Transact 360° Annual Users Conference in March.

During 2023, the Bursar’s Office and Enterprise Systems Finance teams led a comprehensive planning and implementation process for this new system to host student billing, payments, and payment plan enrollment in one portal for both students and authorized payers. As a part of the conversion, the billing process was reworked to utilize baseline Banner delivered functionality, the single-sign-on functionality and code base were updated, and the Account Summary available to students was upgraded to Banner 9.

The system successfully launched in November, before the Spring 2024 billing cycle. This system enhancement was one of the university’s initial steps in the ongoing transition to Banner 9.

Transact’s video presentation of the award cited Virginia Tech’s “commitment to exceptional student experience” and going “above and beyond to achieve excellent enhancements on time.”
