University Operations 2023 Clothing Drive
Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent clothing drive! Your donations will certainly make a difference in supporting our students’ professional and career development and those in need in our communities.
In support of Virginia Tech’s InclusiveVT Welcome Week, the University Operations (formerly SVPCBO) Diversity and Inclusion Committee sponsored a clothing donation drive to benefit Virginia Tech's Career Outfitters program, which serves Virginia Tech students by providing free, donated clothing appropriate for career fairs, networking opportunities, and interviews. Students can receive one outfit, free of charge, once per academic year, to support their professional development.
In total, University Operations employees donated more than 260 articles of clothing, including shirts, slacks, dresses, suits, sweaters, and dress shoes benefitting Career Outfitters.
There was significant participation from our Washington, D.C., metro area locations, too! Their donations will support Artemis House of Falls Church, Arlington Homeless Service Center, and the Alexandria Community Shelter.
A special shout-out of appreciation to the University Operations committee who put this initiative together:
Lori Buchanan, Policy and Governance
Gennelle Chatman, Equity and Accessibility
Alisha Ebert, Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities
Steve Filipiak, Human Resources and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Joyce Landreth, Information Technology
Samantha Marcum, Auxiliary and Business Services
Elvis Rosario, Public Safety
Nick Woods, Finance
If you missed out on participating this time, you can still make a clothing or monetary donation to Career Outfitters, which is open daily within the Smith Career Center. Visit the Career Outfitters website, watch this video, or read this article to learn more about their mission.
