About the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

The executive vice president and chief operating officer is the university’s chief financial, administrative, and operations officer. The executive vice president and chief operating officer is responsible for the financial, administrative, physical, technological, and operational infrastructure of the university and leads these areas in support of its teaching, research, and outreach missions. The executive vice president and chief operating officer partners with the president, executive vice president and provost, the President’s Executive Team, and other university leaders to advance the university’s priorities.

Mission and Values

Through a framework and a platform built on institutional and operational excellence, the administrative enterprise will provide best-in-class, effective and efficient financial, facilities, business, administrative, information technology, safety and security, and human resources services to support the academic, research, and engagement missions of the university. We will provide these services in a healthy work environment that is physically accessible, safe, and secure. We will promote a campus climate that provides for the equitable treatment of students, staff, faculty and all campus partners and visitors.

Consistent with Virginia Tech’s Beyond Boundaries vision for programmatic and transdisciplinary collaboration, we will work collaboratively within university operations, across functional areas, and across all university divisions and offices.

We will carry out our mission in an environment that promotes respect for individuals and the institution, demonstrates integrity through ethical behavior, and that provides accountability, responsiveness, and transparency to our campus partners and colleagues.

Initiatives

The Campus Accessibility Working Group strives to identify opportunities and solutions that advance university accessibility in a collaborative and coordinated manner across multiple divisions and work streams.

It is imperative that the university implement a more effective, coordinated, and digital-first IT operating model.

We will acknowledge areas where we are best in class and continue to identify opportunities to improve.

The vision of the 2020 Climate Action Commitment is in the spirit of Ut Prosim, Virginia Tech will be a leader in climate action in service to our community, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the world.
